Plantain Fry

Pin It Now!

Today I am sharing the recipe for plaintain fry.If you grew up in the southern part of India you must have savoured this dish a lot.I make quite a few versions of fry with the plantains.Earlier I posted raw banana fry -not plantain. This time I made a fry with green plantains. This kind of stir fry goes very well with sambar, greens, mor kozhumbu or just plain yogurt.

Ingredients
2 plantain peeled and cut
1 small onion chopped roughly
1 small tomato chopped roughly
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Pepper powder per taste
Salt as per taste
Oil

Wet Paste Ingredients
1 serrano chilli
4 garlic pods
1 piece ginger
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 very small piece cinnamon stick
1-2 pieces coconut
Water

Method
In a vessel add the plantain, salt, turmeric and water  and cover cook till the plantains are half cooked.Drain the water and set aside.Heat oil in a pan and add the onions and cook till they turn golden, then add tomato and cook till the tomatoes get mushy.Add the onion and tomato mixture to the wet paste ingredients and make a paste.Heat more oil to the pan and add chilli powder immediately add the wet paste, salt, pepper powder and stir cook for a min.Add the plantain and stir cook till they are nicely roasted on both sides.Add some lemon juice if preferred in the end.Enjoy!

This looks so yummy, and I think the plaintain preparations are very common in the east as well,Bengali's do make a lot of things with plaintain.Though I must admit I am partial to the southern recipes :)
